I hope you had a great weekend.
Hey, the WACA conference is less than a month away. I’m happy to report that we have about 20 advisors signed up for the conference so far… But it’s not too late to register. And President Tim Turner just reported last week that there are still hotel spots available at the Red Lion. Remember, log on to wacaonline.org to get all of the conference registration information and forms (including hotel registration info).
We have more than a half-dozen advisors from our area presenting at the conference this year. Thank you! If you’re still thinking about presenting, let me know. There are just a few Meet the Pros (10 minute presentations) sessions available, so get in touch with me soon, please. ;-)
Hey, one of my disappointments this conference is that we have to cancel the Hanford Nuclear Reactor Tour (pre-conference session). There were not enough delegates signed up, so we didn’t meet their minimum group size. If you signed up for the tour, contact me, and I’ll discuss arrangements with you. Thanks.
Hey, one of my great joys of this conference is that Robert Fulghum is coming to speak to us after the banquet on Thursday. I chatted with him by phone a couple of weeks ago, and I’m so much looking forward to hearing him at the conference. He will also have some of his books available for purchase. Our Barnes and Noble in the Mall is handling the sale, and they are being incredibly helpful. They want me to pass on the following information.

Finally, I’d like to review/remind you about some of the area activities I got planned for us at the conference:
Okay, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful week!

Barnes and Noble is handling the sale of his books.
- First, a percentage of the sales will come back to the WACA organization.
- Second, because the conference is an educator’s conference, the Barnes and Noble educator discount is immediately applied to all sales at the convention.
- Third, if you are not signed up for the educator discount at other times, they will sign you up at the conference, if you wish.
- Finally, if you wish to purchase Fulghum books with a school PO, Barnes and Noble is comfortable with the process. Wendy Lilly, the Communications Manager at the local Barnes and Noble says that all you need is the Barnes and Noble Institutional Account # (that your school has). If you’re not sure, check with your school. Or Wendy says that you can contact her (crm2879@bn.com), and she will be glad to check the number for you. (She rocks!!)
Finally, I’d like to review/remind you about some of the area activities I got planned for us at the conference:
- Chocolate Basket: If you would like to participate, bring a package of your favorite chocolate. We’ll put it in a basket, and give you a ticket. At the last area meeting, we’ll draw a winner!
- Movie Basket: Similarly, if you would like to participate, bring your favorite movie treat or movie (last year, I found Princess Bride on DVD at Walmart, and brought a copy to the conference). We’ll put it in a basket, and give you a ticket. At the last area meeting, we’ll draw a winner!
- Last year, we did a wine exchange (again voluntary participation). Since our area boasts some of the finest wineries around, bring a bottle of your favorite, or maybe some sparkling cider! Drop off the bottle at the beginning of the conference, and pick up a different one as you leave. And I believe that we still have the box of white zinfandel that Tim Turner donated several years ago… it should have aged nicely by now!!
- A new activity this year!! Bring your favorite school t-shirt, one that advertises a great activity or event for your school; for example, I’ll bring our annual blood drive t-shirt (we have a wonderfully creative theme each year!). We’ll bring them (wear them?) to the area meeting on the second day of the conference, and have an informal idea exchange. Hopefully, we can leave with some great new ideas, and maybe a new t-shirt vendor or two! And if you want to exchange the shirts, we can do that too.
- Hey, clock hours are available at the conference. Pre-conference sessions are 3 hours, and the rest of the conference is 10 hours. Clock hours are available on Friday morning of the conference, through CISPUS (Mary Fortin!).
Okay, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful week!
