Our annual WACA Conference, Ordinary Heroes, is coming very soon! In Washington State, our professional development for educators that work with student leaders is this very conference. If you are new to WACA and already planning to attend, you are in for a treat! If you are not familiar with WACA, please let me know and I can fill you in on all the reasons why you should be in attendance and answer any questions you may have. Or, if you are a returner, you are counting down the days just like me!
This is an update with some important pieces of information for you. We do not have many delegates registered from our area yet, so I’m hoping this email reminds you to hop online and get that registration in!
1. Our conference will be held at the Yakima Convention Center March 11th-13th, 2015. Registration is open on www.wacaonline.org. The online registration is very easy. All you do is point, click, and type. Then fax your PO to the number listed! So simple it will only take you five minutes! J The conference hotels are the Holiday Inn and the Red Lion. The Holiday Inn is nearly halfway full and the Red Lion still has many reservations, both within walking distance which is awesome!
2. We are looking for more conference presenters and I know that many of you have a ton of great ideas to share with others. If you have a great lesson or activity, please consider sharing it with the delegates. It can be an activity your school plans and puts on, an assembly idea, lesson, etc. This can be a short (10 min) Meet the Pros session or a longer breakout session (50 minutes). Please consider presenting!! I know I learn so much from all of you. If you are interested, please click on the link at www.wacaonline.org.
3. Since we have a "hero" theme this year, we would like to invite you all to wear your Superhero Swag on Thursday, March 12th. As always, this is optional, but if you'd like to play, we'd love to play with you!
4. One thing that has become a tradition is supporting our own school colors on the last day of the conference. Plan on wearing your school spirit gear on Friday if you would like!
5. Giveaways: As has been the tradition in our Area Meetings, we will do a chocolate basket and movie basket giveaway. If you would like to participate, bring your favorite chocolate for the chocolate basket and your favorite movie or movie snack for the movie basket. I'd also like to start a new giveaway this year, as I know many of you are coffee drinkers. So, if you'd also like to bring your favorite mug, coffee, gift card, etc., please feel free. I received some feedback last year of some new ideas for giveaway baskets, so if anyone would like to propose some other ideas, I can send them your way beforehand so you can bring any of those items to contribute!
I hope you are all excited for the conference! It is coming quickly (38 days!!). Be sure to get your registrations in soon!
Have a wonderful weekend, go hawks!!
