Books have always held a special space in my heart. My home is filled with overflowing bookshelves containing beloved, worn-out old books that are as important to me as the friends and family in my life. These books, along with more recent additions, brought me peace and a sense of comfort during the pandemic. Just like one of my favorites, The Choose Your Own Adventure book series, life is unpredictable, and we don’t know how the story will end. This love of books is why I am thrilled to bring you the Leadership Library during this school year.
Nothing about this year is normal. We are all doing our best to love on our students and communities and still find the energy to care for ourselves. We are learning that we cannot ask more from ourselves than we are capable of giving, and it is okay to give grace to ourselves and take time to settle into a new normal with the students, colleagues, and communities we work with.
We know there are uncertainties about attending the conference in March. Be it budget concerns, substitute shortages, or a shift in energy as you are asked to give more, we get it. You are doing your best and even though it may sometimes feel like it, none of us are doing this alone. This year, members of the WACA board are committed to bringing you quality programming and networking through WACA Wednesdays, resources on the website, and our annual conference. Should you find yourself able to join us at our annual conference in Vancouver, Washington, March 9-11, 2022, you can be assured we will do our best, along with the amazing staff at the Vancouver Hilton, to help our delegates feel safe and comfortable during our time together. Registration is open now through March and it is my hope you will find a way to join us.
In the meantime, the adventures of student activities continue….
"You check your email and find 19,000 unread messages, you feel slightly overwhelmed, what do you do?"
Choice: do you give up and drown yourself in a box of chocolate? (turn to Tuesday of last week)
Choice: do you dig into the resilience that lies within you? (turn to WACA Wednesday on November 17).
