Countdown to WACA...4 days!
I can't believe the conference is a few short days away. I'm excited to see everyone from our area, first timers and returnees.
I apologize in advance to those of you not attending the conference…this is information the delegates will need. We will miss you and hope to see you at WACA 2015.
I’m happy to report that we have about 30 advisors signed up for the conference so far… But it’s not too late to register. President Tim Turner just reported that there are still hotel spots available at the Red Lion. Remember, log on to wacaonline.org to get all of the conference registration information and forms (including hotel registration info).
Unfortunately we have to cancel the Hanford Nuclear Reactor Tour (pre-conference session). There were not enough delegates signed up, so we didn’t meet their minimum group size.
One of the many great things happening this year is that Robert Fulghum is coming to speak to us after the banquet on Thursday. He will also have some of his books available for purchase. The Kennewick Barnes and Noble is handling the sale, and they are being incredibly helpful. They want me to pass on the following information.
FIRST...a percentage of the sales will come back to the WACA organization.
SECOND...because the conference is an educator’s conference, the Barnes and Noble educator discount is immediately applied to all sales at the convention.
THIRD...if you are not signed up for the educator discount at other times, they will sign you up at the conference, if you wish.
FINALLY...if you wish to purchase Fulghum books with a school PO, Barnes and Noble is comfortable with the process. Wendy Lilly, the Communications Manager at the local Barnes and Noble says that all you need is the Barnes and Noble Institutional Account # (that your school has). If you’re not sure, check with your school. Or Wendy says that you can contact her ([email protected]), and she will be glad to check the number for you. (She rocks!!)
I’d like to review/remind you about some of the area activities I planned for us at the conference:
Chocolate Basket: If you would like to participate, bring a package of your favorite chocolate. We’ll put it in a basket, and give you a ticket. At the last area meeting, we’ll draw a winner!
Movie Basket: Similarly, if you would like to participate, bring your favorite movie treat or movie. We’ll put it in a basket, and give you a ticket. At the last area meeting, we’ll draw a winner!
A new activity this year!! Bring your favorite school t-shirt/sweatshirt, one that advertises a great activity or event for your school; for example, this year at YMS, we designed an “All Athletic” sweatshirt with different patches for each sport. We’ll bring them to the area meeting on the second day of the conference, and have an informal idea exchange. Hopefully, we can leave with some great new ideas, and maybe a new t-shirt vendor or two! And if you want to exchange the shirts, we can do that too.
CONFERENCE ATTIRE:
Dress casually/comfortably - many breakouts will be active.
Some choose dressy casual for the No-Host Social and Hall of Fame Banquet on Thursday.
Friday is rep your school day - so wear your best spirit/pride wear. It's always fun to see what other schools come up with each year.
I have attached the program for those who want to plan which sessions to attend before you get there.
Clock hours are available at the conference. Pre-conference sessions are 3 hours, and the rest of the conference is 10 hours. Clock hours are available on Friday morning of the conference, through CISPUS (Mary Fortin!).
Phew...I think that's everything! Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
Jen Nelson
