I don't know about you, but I am currently undergoing Detox 2014, due to my Winter Break festivities. At any rate - welcome back, this will be quick!
As always, please forward this to advisors and teachers that should be receiving this info. And, I apologize if you are still on my list and asked to be removed because your job changed.
It's not too early to register for the conference, or sign up to present! Tri-CitiesMar 12-14.
Please go to the website wacaonline.org for both tasks. There are currently only 3 presenters signed up (yikes!)
Shout out to: First Creek MS, Mt. View MS, Stadium HS, Orting MS, Sumner HS, for already having people registered.
I know the conference is a little bit more of a trek, but I'm hoping we are still 70 strong this year. I truly feel so privileged to be in our area because we have so many amazing activities going on in our schools - and I use you all as resources.
Consider inviting some of your class and club advisors to attend with you this year, or if you have other personal commitments, maybe send someone in your place. We have excellent keynotes lined up, and you know your schools will benefit by having someone in attendance.
Other cool ideas:
Have you checked out the iphone app Characterstrong, created by Houston Kraft? It is based on the 40 Day Character Dare Challenge in the servant leadership model.
Check out John Green's vlogs (video blogs). He is the author of Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska among others. He is freakishly smart and witty, and many of his videos are relevant to a variety of subject areas. I know our Economics teachers show some of his videos to break down economic principles.
MLK Jr observances....every three or four years, I made our observance service based. Coretta Scott King always said to consider it a day on, not a day off. Consider a school wide service project, a collaboration with a feeder school, or a guest speaker from a local non-profit organization.
I've found that we can all give of our time, giving doesn't have to be monetary.
That's it for now - I'm headed to Richland this weekend for the Winter Board Conference planning meeting. If you have any burning questions, shoot me an email before the weekend and I can consult the whole group. Or just drop me a message to say hi.
Hope 2014 is off to a good start.
