Hello Area 1, this is Dick Caldwell your Area 1 Rep. with more Info. for this years conference for you. 1st this years conference is back at the Yakima Convention center on March 11th-13th. I know it is a long drive but there is just something to be said for cresting the pass and breaking into the beautiful blue skies of Eastern Washington. This years theme is Ordinary Heroes which all of you are!!!!!!!!! It always amazes me how much time and effort you put into your schools, you all ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is what you need:
1. It is time to get registered!!! So go to www.wacaonline.org. The online registration is very easy due to my friend Ryan Healy who is our Tech. coordinator that has put this fantastic web site together. All you need to do is point click and type. Then fax you PO to the number listed, it is that easy. The Conference hotels are the Holiday Inn and the Red Lion. The Holiday in is a little over 1/2 full and there are still plenty of rooms at the Red Lion. The only difference Between the two is you have to walk across the street to get to the conference from the Holiday Inn, and you do not at the Red Lion. Information about housing is also on the web site.
2. This year we will be doing an Idea exchange again during our Area Meetings. Could you please E-Mail me your ideas for topics that we have not done before so I can make a list and get you the list early so you have time to think about what your school does for that topic.
3. I need some of you to step up and present at this years WACA. We are looking for 50 minute sessions and 10 minute meet the Pro's. If you have never presented before you may want to start with a 10 minute meet the Pro's to get your feet wet. I have learned so much from all the sessions I have attended from Area 1 presenters!!! We always lead the way and I am calling on you again for your help. Just go to the web site and sign up and we will get you in the program. Our Conference is only as good as our presenters and I know a ton of you do fantastic things at your schools.
4. The program will be listed on the web site also so go to it and see all the things we have in store for you. We have changed a few things like dinner on the first night at 6:10pm which was something you asked for in our hits and wishes last time there.
5. Conference attire will be what ever you want on Wed. for the first day.
Your T-Shirt that will be given you on arrival for Thurs. and any other swag you wish to wear for the theme (capes are optional but you can wear them if you have them). Some people like to dress up a bit for the banquet on Thurs. night but that is up to you. Friday is wear your school colors to support your school.
6. I will have the usual ton of things to give away at our area meetings but I would like to add a couple that we give away at the last meeting. The first will be a chocolate basket and anyone that brings their favorite bar of Choc. for the basket will be entered. The new one I would like to promote is your favorite drink basket so you could bring coffee, tea, Hot Chocolate, a cup, gift card and put in the basket and be entered in that drawing.
As you can see it is going to be a ton of fun so register today don't put it off. You are going to learn a ton that you can bring back to your school to make change for the better next year. I will send your check off sheet before the conference so you do not forget anything. See you soon!!!!!!
