AREA ONE PEOPLE:
Are you ready to GO FISHING FOR SOME GREAT IDEAS? If so, these are the details you need for your successful fishing trip to Vancouver, Washington.
1) Hotel Reservations:
Some of you have planned ahead and have already reserved rooms in our block at the Vancouver Hilton! This is fantastic, however you will also need to register for the conference by February 1st. We want to accommodate those people who have already registered and are not able to book rooms. If you are not able to register for the conference by February 1st we will have to cancel your hotel reservations.
If you are staying at the Vancouver Hilton, we have 100 reserved parking spots. These will cost $6 per night, the reduced conference rate. If possible, please carpool. There is parking across from the street from the Hilton for $8 per night. Another place for accommodations is the Comfort Inn, which is a 5 minute drive to the conference. The Comfort Inn is newly remodeled and rooms are $107 per night with a continental breakfast.
2) Registration and the WACA Website:
You can register online at our WACA Website Conference Registration link. If you are paying with a credit card, please have the card ready when you register. You will be asked to enter the card number information at that time.
3) Pre-Con:
We have a fantastic Pre-Conference line-up this year:
Topics in ASB Funding and Finance, Presented by Martin E. Fortin, Jr., AWSP
Study Session: Looking at Leadership, Presented by Susan Fortin, AWSL Director & Joe Fenbert, AWSL Curriculum & Communications
Keeping Character Development in Focus With Your Advanced Hand's On Leadership Class, Presented By John Norlin - Director of Student Leadership and Community Involvement K-12 Sumner School District
ENGAGE: Creating Culture that Works, Presented by Scott Backovich, Motivational Speaker
The price of the pre-con also includes lunch. Please remember if you sign up for a presentation to make sure you go to that presentation. Speakers plan for the number of attendees based on registration.
4) Do you have some great ideas to present?
Show off your leadership talent. This year, I'm challenging you to step up and SHARE some of the best ideas, strategies, projects, programs and/or leadership goodness you have hidden away. There are openings for 10 minute presentations at Meet the Pros or 50 minute time slots for more in-depth presentations. If you are interested please sign up on our website at Presenter Application .
5) Dietary Needs:
If you are a vegetarian, gluten-free or have a food allergy/restriction please let me (your area representative) know. Please be patient and understand that we might not be able to meet the individual needs of 350 people.
6) WACA Board Openings:
Are you interested in being on the WACA Board? The election for a new Area One Representative (that's me) will be held during this year's conference. If you are interested in this position or any of the other positions open for election please contact me or any other board members at the conference.
7) WACA Bookstore:
Do you have books, tools, manipulatives, etc. that you find especially useful in your classroom? We’re always open to suggestions of what to stock in our WACA store and would love to stock up on items that have worked for you! Let your area representative know if you have any suggestions. Remember, we will have some pretty great Leadership swag available for purchase in the store as well.
Finally, if you are not interested in receiving WACA updates and emails please hit reply and let me know. I will take your name off my mailing list! Also, if you know someone else should be getting this email again hit reply and let me know!
This year's convention will be amazing! Don't miss the boat! Hope to see you there!
