I hope you’re having a great start to the school year. Undoubtedly, you’re sitting on your back porch every afternoon, sipping sweet tea and wondering what you could be doing with your free time… Right! I know this is a hectic time of the year for everyone. I hope it’s also a time of excitement and adventure for your students, with maybe even some growth and learning sprinkled in. Good luck as you move through Homecoming and WASC preparations.
WASC is coming up this weekend. The conference is hosted at Glacier Peak HS in Snohomish. That area’s LASC is an amazing group, and I’m sure we’ll have a great conference. The WACA Board will be part of it; we will put on an adviser’s session on Saturday. It should be a lot of fun. Hope to see you there!
And next Spring, Tri-Cities will play host to the WACA Conference!! That’s right, WACA is in our own backyard this year. So let’s get a huge crowd from Area 8 there. If you haven’t been able to come to the conference in the past, it should be a little easier this year. Last year, we had 14 delegates from seven different area schools. Here’s some details for you to think about:
Well, I’ve mentioned the website a half-dozen times!! That’s right, the website is new, improved, and up-and-running. Please take a few moments to check it out: wacaonline.org.
Okay, that’s all for now. I have to go and catch a bus to WASC!! Have a great weekend, everyone!

If you haven’t been able to come to the conference in the past, it should be a little easier this year. Last year, we had 14 delegates from seven different area schools. Here’s some details for you to think about:
- The conference dates are March 12-14, 2014.
- The theme is WACA 2014 Help! WACA Meets the Beatles!
- The conference hotels are already on the website (Hilton Garden and Red Lion).
- Remember we do a Hall of Fame presentation at the conference. If you want to nominate someone, the criteria and application are on the website. Deadlines for nominations are December 31st.
- Of course, we will elect new officers. Area 8 representative is one of the positions up for election. If you’re interested, election forms will be on-line around the middle of January. If you’re thinking about it, or have questions, please feel free to chat with me about the position.
- And as usual, we will be looking for presenters to lead sessions at the conference. And again, since the conference is in the Tri-Cities, we should have lots of presenters from our area, as we show the state just how we do things in area 8. You have lots of neat events and projects that you run each year at your school. Choose a neat one to present to the other delegates. This year we’d love to have a few sessions that highlight the “alternate leaders” in our schools, and a few sessions about class advisors. Give it some thought. Applications for presenters are on the website.
