Hi Area 6!
Next month we get to enjoy some awesome PD together at WACA, can you believe it?! I am sending lots more information, so I apologize. This is another long email, but I don’t want you to miss out on anything!
Lodging for the conference: Here is a link to the conference lodging. Book your hotel RIGHT away to try to get the conference rate. http://www.wacaonline.org/lodging.html
Registration: The registrations are really rolling in for the conference. Don’t miss out. Here is a link to register. http://www.wacaonline.org/registration.html
Conference Details:
Something I need to pack? Yes, but only for fun! During the conference, we often try and dress to the theme (Our own version of WACA spirit) Wednesday, come in whatever you would like. Thursday, because it is Sports themed, feel free to wear a team jersey or any sort of sports attire. Thursday evening, we have a banquet, so feel free to wear your spiffed up sports attire then as well! Friday is usually a day where we all get to represent our own school spirit. Pick a cool shirt that your school has designed to wear around and show off.
ALSO! To complement the theme we are doing a fun “Throwback Thursday” activity. Feel free to bring any old sports pics (yes, of yourself!) from your younger years as an athlete or fan that we can put on display. We will have cardstock templates to attach your photos to and a place to write a little something for other delegates to enjoy. If you would rather, you can also bring a digital copy that we can post on our digital tagboard during the conference.
Drum Roll Please… Key note speakers! Stu Cabe and Anthony Robles will be with us, sharing some great stories and lessons that we can connect to. Anthony is also an author, so we will have his book available for purchase in our WACA store, along with tons of other great resources.
Book the Pros: In addition to Meet the Pros, we will be doing a Book the Pros session this year! This is another awesome rotation that offers ideas on what great resources are available to us in the form of a book. If you use a book in your class to teach from, have students read, lead initiatives out of- let us know! This would be a short 10 min session that you would share some ideas, lesson plans or any tips about utilizing the resource you have to share. If you have never presented before at WACA, this is a great place to start! Click here to view the presenter application. Important!! When you see the application, you will not find an option for Book the Pros. It is classified under Meet the Pros, but do specify in your application that you intend to present during the Book the Pros Session.
WACA constitutional change/activity coordinator certification: On the first day of the conference (opening session) you will hear about a motion to make a constitutional amendment. This is regarding an addition to the executive board to have an advisor to lead the certification process. After the details are presented, you will have an opportunity to vote in our first area meeting. At the conference, you will hear more about the updates to the certification process as well.
Last but, not least
Remember, if you know someone that should be receiving this email, but is not, please let me know, I would love to add them. Or, if you no longer want to receive these emails, let me know that too!
AND: If you want to check out the conference trailer again, here it is for you to enjoy.
Take care, happy beginning of 2nd semester!
Your WACA Area 6 Rep,
Susie
