As always, if you would like to be removed from this mailing list, OR, if
you would like me to add someone who is in a new Leadership role in your
building, please let me know a name, position, and email for that person.
:-)
The WACA board is convening late September, so let me know if you have any
burning conference questions or suggestions.
This year is my 11th year teaching and as ASB adviser, all at Curtis
Junior High. As many of you know, our first day of school was school-wide
orientation. We have activities in the morning (7:30-noon) that teach the
ways of being a Curtis Cougar. We used a couple Kid President videos that
I've included below. Thanks to Ryan Healy for compiling so many great
videos on wacaonline.org! Stu Cabe was our guest speaker again. The
students and staff truly love him. Stu tailored a message to our 9th
graders about breaking some habits if they have unhealthy habits. Many
staff members commented on how they liked that he had a more serious,
straight-forward "conversation" with our oldest students, the 9th graders.
--> Letter to a Person on Their First Day Here (for our incoming
students/8th graders): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5-EwrhsMzY
--> A Pep Talk for Teachers (and Students) for our 9th graders:

Please consider one of these great local DJs for your dances this year!
I've worked with all three and they are great with schools. All have been
partners at WACA at least once, Radio Parties for a number of years.

**For what it's worth, I've worked with Ray and Sean for weddings and both
are wonderful for those, as well.**
If you're new to advising, I highly recommend that you attend a WASBO
workshop on ASB Law: http://www.wasbo.org/events/event_list.asp
Finally, I've attached an article that I'm thinking about using as a close
read with my students. It's from The Huffington Post and is called 7
Habits of Considerate People. I think many of us are trying to get our
leadership students to this servant leader/kind/considerate place, and
this article is very succinct about some traits of those kinds of people.
Thanks to Tim Turner for posting this on FB.
I'm excited to work with you all in this capacity again! I hope your years
are all off to a great start. :-)
